Jury Convicts Wrestling Coach For Biting Off Man’s Earlobe
CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) _ A high school wrestling coach has been convicted of a misdemeanor battery charge for biting off part of a man’s ear during a fight that began as a traffic dispute.
Scott Vlink, 33, coach at Crown Point High School, will be sentencin connection with the May 19, 1987, incident on the courthouse square in Crown Point.
The jury deliberated about an hour Wednesday before returning the verdict.
According to testimony, Vlink bit off Donald Dugger’s earlobe during the altercation which began as Dugger, also of Crown Point, crossed a street.
Dugger alleged that a car nearly hit him. He said he made a kicking motion toward the car, and that the driver, whom he identified as Vlink, got out and started fighting.
