Rider Hospitalized After 2 Motorcycles Hit by Truck in Lowell
LOWELL -- A motorcyclist who suffered serious lower-body injuries was airlifted by MedFlight following a multi-vehicle crash in the Centralville neighborhood shortly before 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
Two motorcycles were struck by a Dodge Ram 3500 truck at the intersection of Lakeview Avenue and Aiken Streets.
According to one of the motorcyclists who was walking around on scene after the wreck, the driver of the truck ran a red light, striking both his motorcycle and the motorcycle of the person he was traveling with. He denied to provide any additional information, including his name.
Police were not immediately available to provide the cause of the crash.
Heather Pickewell, who lives at an apartment near the intersection, said she heard the crash and came outside seconds after.
“We heard no breaking,” she said. “Just a big smash.”
She added the corner is notorious for people running the red light at night.
Both motorcycles lay on their sides in the road as the scene was investigated. The truck, which had the business name “Fragale Building Corporation” written on its side, showed dents on its hood and the near the rear tire.
