Capitol boys soccer: Main powers Lakeside; L-Cats, United tumble

September 20, 2018

LAKE MILLS — Kyle Main scored goals six minutes apart in the second half of Lakeside Lutheran’s 4-3 Capitol boys soccer win over visiting Lodi Tuesday.

The hosts picked up an own goal when the Blue Devils’ Ben Zieser inadvertently put one in his own net. Nathan Krenke doubled the Lakeside lead in the 12th minute.

“We came out with a fire that we have not seen before and the beginning of the game showed it,” Lakeside coach Clark Schultz said. “However a mental lapse and Lodi’s speed ... knotted the game back up, it was a slugfest in the second half.”

Main got his first in the 57th minute and then headed home Josh Lindert’s corner kick for what would turn out to be the game-winner. Lakeside (2-2 Capitol) visits Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld Thursday.

COLUMBUS — Sal Genco and Geki Salvi each scored two goals for Columbus in a 6-1 Capitol Conference boys soccer win over Hustisford/Dodgeland on Tuesday.

Genco notched his first goal two minutes into the contest to give Columbus (4-7-3, 1-2-1 in conference) an early 1-0 lead. Dylan Kilmartin pulled H/D United (1-10, 0-5) even with a goal six minutes later after Seth Hayden won a ball in the box and dished it off for the assist.

Columbus scored twice more before halftime and put three in during the second half to pull away. The host Cardinals outshot H/D United 24-10. Brady Held made 14 saves for H/D United.

“Tough loss to Columbus tonight,” H/D United coach Scott Blome said. “The H/D United team started out strong tonight in the first half with some great plays and some really good hustle to stay on the ball and got one goal in the first half (while) giving up three. Going into the second half we just couldn’t keep up to the same energy level that Columbus had. Great hustle by Seth (on our goal).”

H/D United travels to face Lomira on Thursday.
