No. 15 Texas Tech 72, San Francisco 61
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) _ Michi Atkins scored 28 points, including a jumper midway through the second half to break a 46-46 tie, as No. 15 Texas Tech beat San Francisco 72-61 on Sunday.
Atkins also grabbed 10 rebounds for her sixth consecutive double-double.
The game was close from start to finish with 11 ties. Atkins’ jumper at 7:54 broke the last one, giving Tech (9-2) a 48-46 lead.
After pulling in a defensive rebound, Atkins took a pass from Rene Hanebutt and made a fadeaway on the right side. That made the score 50-46 with 7:16 left and seemed to be the turning point. San Francisco (4-5) was outscored 24-15 over the final eight minutes.
Tech outrebounded San Francisco 38-37 and outshot the Lady Dons from the field, 49 to 36 percent.
Tech freshman guard Rene Hanebutt had 15 points and forward Alicia Thompson added 11.
For San Francisco, Valerie Gillon had 25 points and nine rebounds. Brittany Lindke had 18 points and Renee Demirdjian 10.
The victory was Texas Tech’s 20th in a row in Lubbock Municipal Coliseum.
