Jet Catches Fire in Japan Airport

TOKYO (AP) _ A fire broke out in an engine of a United Airlines jumbo jet preparing to take off at Tokyo’s International Airport today, forcing the evacuation of all of its passengers and injuring at least seven, an airport official said.

The fire occurred in the Hong-Kong-bound Boeing 747 on a runway at Narita airport, just outside of Tokyo, and all of the passengers left the aircraft on evacuation slides, said Chinami Watanuki, an airport spokesman.

No further information was immediately available.
