Man crossing street with dog, struck by vehicle, dies
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Police in Burlington, Vermont, say a man crossing a street with his dog was struck and killed by a vehicle.
The accident happened a little after 5 p.m. Thursday. Police said Friday that man who died was 61-year-old Jonathan Jerome.
Authorities say the area not well lit and the driver was traveling below the posted speed limit and obeying traffic laws.
The driver stopped immediately, remained at the scene, and gave consent to search his phone and vehicle for evidence of distraction. None was found. Police are still investigating.
Police say the he Jerome’s dog, which was critically injured, was in stable condition on Friday.
