Paper Boy Gets Help for Elderly Woman
RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) _ A paper boy was credited with helping save the life of an 87-year-old woman who lay disabled on her bathroom floor for at least three days.
Scott McShane, a 13-year-old carrier for the Tri-City Herald, said he got worried when Doris Bell’s newspapers began to accumulate on her front steps. He also noticed the front door was ajar, though the screen door was locked.
Scott told his mother, who called 911. Richland police found a dehydrated and disoriented Bell lying on her bathroom floor Tuesday. She apparently fell over the weekend, police said.
″I think it’s safe to say if the paper boy hadn’t alerted people that she could have died,″ police Capt. Dale Brunson said Thursday.
Bell was in stable condition Friday at a hospital, officials said.
″I feel so bad that this happened to her, and especially that it happened on Mother’s Day and no one knew,″ said Scott’s mother, Kristy McShane.
