Zonta Club of Pocatello announces 2018-2019 scholarship winner
POCATELLO– The Scholarship Committee for Zonta Club of Pocatello has selected Kellie Gilmore as their Idaho State University student scholarship recipient for the 2018-2019 academic year.
Kellie Gilmore, originally from Tulsa, OK but now a senior at Idaho State University, credits a local Pocatello woman for inspiring her to begin again on her educational journey. In 2015, a driven and inspirational coworker encouraged Kellie to return to college where she is now pursuing a Bachelors in Economics. “I (am) enamored by the complexity and ambiguity of economics,” wrote Gilmore in her prize-winning essay. She also uses her knowledge to tutor students in the Economics Department at ISU. “Helping students recognize their capabilities and overcome difficulties has brought me so much joy the past two years.”
In the fall, Gilmore will be traveling abroad in England for a semester to continue her education. “The chance to pursue an international education is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to learn skills and overcome challenges.” Gilmore aspires to be a respected woman in (especially) international business. Gilmore wants “…society to show that success and power are not just for men…that there is room at the top for both men and women.”
The Zonta Scholarship is opened annually to women students of any major at Idaho State University. Applicants must have at least sophomore status with a minimum 2.75 GPA. For more information on the scholarship, to check qualifications and apply, students are encouraged to contact the ISU Scholarship Office at (208) 282-3779.
Kellie Gilmore joins previous winners including Josephine Dye (2017-2018) Dietetics student and Kenya Sherman (Spring 2017) a student in Bio-Medical Sciences.
