HUNTINGTON — Marshall University began preparations to send off a batch of new graduates in December with its semi-annual Countdown to Commencement that concluded Wednesday.

More than 1,200 graduates will receive their degrees Dec. 15 at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena in Huntington.

The event brings together 11 campus offices and graduation services to one location to save students the trouble of visiting them individually. The university conducts Countdown to Commencement the month before graduation each semester to make it easier for the graduates to gather the information and paperwork they need as they move from student to alumni status.

Upcoming graduates also had the opportunity to purchase caps and gowns, class rings and graduation photographs at the event.
