Delaware daycare worker sentenced for breaking infant’s leg
WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — A Delaware daycare worker is headed to prison for breaking the leg of an 11-month-old child in her care.
The state’s justice department reports that Amber Worthy “aggressively moved” the child in September 2017. The action caused a spiral fracture to the youngster’s tibia, a bone in the lower leg.
The New Castle woman was working at the Happy Kids Academy on Old Baltimore Pike in Newark. The injured child was enrolled in the facility’s infant program.
A news release by Delaware’s Department of Justice says the 33-year-old Worthy pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in July.
A Superior Court judge sentenced her to 18 months in prison, followed by six months of home confinement or work release. She will be on probation for 18 months after that.
