Woman Falls or Jumps From Plane

December 15, 2000

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) _ A woman fell or jumped from a company plane as it flew about 2,000 feet over the Sacramento area.

The Hewlett-Packard Corp. employee, who was taking the company’s shuttle from Sacramento to San Jose, has not been found and is presumed dead.

Federal aviation safety officials were interviewing the plane’s two pilots and five other passengers.

Reports conflicted on whether anyone saw the woman leave the plane on Thursday, or if they only noticed she was gone when the plane landed in San Jose, the San Jose Mercury News reported Friday.

The twin-engine plane departed from Lincoln Regional Airport and shortly afterward made an emergency landing at the Sacramento Executive Airport because a cockpit light indicated that a door was unlocked.

After the door was checked, the plane took off again. Minutes later, the woman fell or jumped from the emergency exit door.

A passenger called 911 to report the woman missing about 45 minutes after the landing, according to a report filed with the San Jose Airport.
