Former Oxford Head Porter Invited to Inauguration
LONDON (AP) _ The former head porter at the Oxford college where President-elect Clinton studied has received a personal invitation to the White House inauguration.
Douglas Millin, 76, became friends with Clinton after he arrived at University College in October 1968 as a Rhodes Scholar. It was not known if Millin would attend.
A college spokeswoman on Tuesday denied reports of hard feelings among college staff that the sole invitation went to a former porter.
″They are not in a tizzy. No one expected to be invited and they are all delighted Douglas has been invited,″ she said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Clinton accepted an honorary fellowship last month at University College, the oldest of the 20 colleges that make up Oxford University.
