MOULTONBOROUGH, N.H. (AP) — The public is invited to join two swimmers who are planning to make their way around Ragged Island on Lake Winnipesaukee to raise money for loon preservation.

The goal of swimmers Pam Halsey and Brenda Gallagher is to swim all 256 non-bridged islands on the lake by the end of 2019 to raise money for the Loon Preservation Committee's work to safeguard and recover loons.

The public is invited to join them for a swim or paddle on Thursday, July 19. Afterward, Executive Director Harry Vogel will join the group on the island to speak about the loons, a threatened species in New Hampshire.

The Lakes Region Conservation Trust will offer a guided tour of the island.
