Expecting families workshops at DeKalb library
DeKALB – Newborns don’t walk, talk or sometimes even smile – but with a little information and help getting started, you can reap the many rewards of play from Day 1.
The DeKalb Public Library, 309 Oak St., will hold the second workshop in a three-part series for expecting families at 10 a.m. Friday.
This session will be all about playing with your newborn. Hands-on practice and resources will be provided. Topics include holding baby for play; using visual, auditory and movement activities, as well as music; wearing your baby; and outdoor play.
The third and final session, to be at 10 a.m. Feb. 9, will be a new dad boot camp. Information will be provided as we as some hands-on practice, including a speed-diapering contest. This class covers easing the transition, sleep, feeding, the first six weeks, baby carriers and diapering.
The instructor will be Mary Hawkin, a certified childbirth educator. She also is a music teacher who works with early childhood programs, and the mother of two young children.
These programs are free and open to all, no need to register. They will be held in the upper level Story & Activity Room.
