16 Dead, 20 Wounded in L.A. County Weekend Violence
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ A 16-year old girl, a birthday party guest and a man attending a baptism party were among 16 people killed during a bloody weekend countywide that also left 20 wounded, police said.
The 16-year-old girl was fatally shot by a lone gunman early Sunday as she sat inside a car with three other friends, said sheriff’s Deputy Hal Grant. The victim’s identity was not released.
A 32-year-old Los Angeles man, Carmelo Reynoso, attending a birthday party Saturday night was shot and killed and 21-year-old Oscar Enrique Escobar was shot to death at a baptism party Saturday night, police said.
Reputed gang members crashed a graduation party just before midnight Saturday, then shot and killed an unidentified 22-year-old man who confronted them.
In Reseda, an apartment building maintenance worker was stabbed to death Sunday following an argument with three men in their early 20s, police said. Rick Migneault, 44, died at the scene, said Sgt. John Schiffner.
A woman was arrested after her 52-year-old husband was found bludgeoned to death in their Tujunga home Sunday, said Lt. Wayne Woolway.
Early Saturday, a gang-related shooting at a mini-mall left one man dead. A later shooting at the same location left another man wounded in the back.
