$2M bond set for man charged in shooting death of 7-year-old
BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi judge has set bond at $2 million for a man charged with murder in the death of a 7-year-old boy who was struck by a bullet that pierced a wall in his father’s home.
The Daily Leader reports 24-year-old John Weathersby of Wesson appeared before a municipal judge Tuesday in Brookhaven, the city where Quantavious Allen Jr. was shot to death June 12 while playing video games.
A police affidavit says Weathersby used an AK-47 to shoot at Allen’s father’s house. It happened weeks after Quantavious had finished first grade.
During the hearing Tuesday, Weathersby’s attorney, Brandon Dorsey, asked Judge Brad Boerner to reduce the bond. The judge said no because he considers Weathersby to be a flight risk.
Weathersby remains in jail in nearby Copiah County.
