Melvyn G. Marshall, 77, of Manteno, passed away Sunday (Oct. 7, 2018) at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee.
He was born Nov. 9, 1940, in Peotone, the son of Lewis Marshall and Velma McComb. He was married to Judith E. Marshall.
Melvyn owned Marshall Trucking, MGM Enterprises, Melco Brokerage, Sugar Creek Flea Market, Hitch Kommander, Triangle Employment, Melco Transfer, Melco Tire and People 4U. Prior to that, he worked at Ford Motor Company and worked as a bartender.
He attended the Manteno United Methodist Church.
Melvyn was a graduate of Manteno High School, a member of FFA and Manteno Planning Commision for many years, longtime board member of Manteno Sportsmans Club, board chair holder of Old Time Farm Show, Slow Boys Tractor Club, The Green Club, White Tails Unlimited, National Wild Turkey Federation and Ducks Unlimited. He was the licensed pyrotechnician for the Manteno fireworks for many years. He enjoyed collecting guns, traveling, antique cars, old Westerns, going to the cabin and fishing.
He was a tech wiz and enjoyed gadgets. He was a farmer at heart and a tractor enthusiast. His family described Melvyn as a generous kind soul who never met a stranger. He loved his family and grandkids.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen J. and Gagnon, of Wasilla, Alaska; and sons, David Marshall, of Manteno, and Mike Marshall, of Manteno.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
