INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indianapolis Colts running back Edgerrin James will miss Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans because of a partially torn right hamstring.

James was downgraded from doubtful on Friday. He was injured in last Sunday’s loss at Washington.

James underwent an MRI on Monday, and coach Tony Dungy said the results showed a partial tear of the hamstring.

Ricky Williams, an undrafted rookie from Texas Tech, could replace James in a game the Colts must win to maintain their lead in the AFC South.

Against Washington, Williams ran three times for 21 yards and caught a 20-yard touchdown pass after filling in for James.

James had a season-ending injury last year that led to surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

This season, James has just one 100-yard rushing game. He’s run for less than 100 yards in a career-high five consecutive games. His average of 3.4 yards per carry is almost a full yard less than his career average (4.3) and he’s off to the slowest start in his four NFL seasons.

Still, James has rushed for 523 yards. He ranks among the NFL’s top 15 in yards from scrimmage and is on pace for a third 1,000-yard season.
