Next Second Saturday at Minnesota Marine Art Museum to celebrate women
The Minnesota Marine Art Museum, in conjunction with Women’s History Month, will be celebrating women and women artists at its March 9 Second Saturday event.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the museum will feature $1 admission, guided tours, art-making activities, and special themed programs focused on the impact of women artists and women in our own lives.
Activities include MMAM highlights tours, which will introduce visitors to artwork from MMAM’s permanent collection, and a “Women of MMAM” tour that will focus on women artists the museum’s collections. Ceramicist Anne Plummer will lead wheel-throwing and other clay demonstrations throughout the day and there will be live music from Winona’s own Patina and Magpie Revival. Art-making activities include Georgia O’Keefe inspired pastel projects and playing with clay. Visitors are also invited to contribute to the “Words for Women” display, where they can share thoughts, wishes and words that come to mind when thinking about the women in your life.

Second Saturdays are made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. This highly competitive arts access grant encourages arts organizations across the state to invest in programming that creates long-term engagement between arts organizations and their communities.
Second Saturdays are also made possible with contributions by sponsor WNB Financial, media sponsor The Water Main, Minnesota Public Radio and Bingo Overbaord sponsor Doug Troke, Farmers Insurance.
