Poll Finds Support for Space Exploration
NEW YORK (AP) _ The space shuttle program is still strongly supported by most Americans despite the Challenger tragedy, an ABC News poll shows.
The poll, based on interviews with more than 500 people, found that 79 percent support the shuttle program, while 16 percent were opposed. Five percent said they had no opinion, said Elise Adde, news division spokeswoman.
Seventy-two percent wanted to keep including civilians, such as teacher Christa McAuliffe, on shuttle crews, while 22 percent said ″no″ and 5 percent had no opinion, she said.
The poll, with a margin of error of five percent, was released on ABC World News Tonight on Wednesday.
