Colorado men arrested in Buffalo Thunder Casino attack
Two Colorado men were in the Santa Fe County jail on Monday as suspects in what sheriff’s deputies said was an attack on two other men in the Buffalo Thunder Casino parking lot early Saturday.
An arrest statement filed in Santa Fe County Magistrate Court says deputies responded to reports of a fight that left one man with a broken jaw and a missing tooth and the other with a gash on his head requiring stitches.
Jesus Arvizo, 30, and his brother, Manuel Arvizo, 27, from Alamosa, Colo., were charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery, respectively.
The injured men told investigators they didn’t know the Arvizos and said the strangers had started hitting them “for no reason,” the court document says. However, Manuel Arvizo told the investigators the brothers acted in self-defense.
Deputies obtained video footage showing Jesus Arvizo strike one man from behind when Manuel Arvizo punched the other, according to the statement of probable cause.
Deputies reported that they had stopped the brothers as they tried to leave the parking lot in a vehicle.
The brothers were being held in lieu of bond.
