New Music from Huey Lewis Coming?
Last year, Huey Lewis & the News were forced to cancel their tour dates after Huey suddenly lost his hearing. But this year, there’s some good News: This spring, the singer and his band will be releasing their first album of new original songs in 18 years.
Huey still suffers from Ménière’s disease, an inner-ear disorder that can cause vertigo, ringing and hearing loss. While there’s no cure, he’s explored a number of different treatments. In a statement, Lewis said, “Right now, I’m cautiously optimistic about my hearing and just taking it day by day. Some days are better than others, but overall things have been improving. I’m hoping to stabilize, and get back to writing, recording and performing soon.” Huey told the Marin Independent Journal in November that before he lost his hearing, the band had recorded seven new songs for the project, which he said are among their “best work.”
Huey Lewis & the News’ most recent album was 2010′s Soulsville, which featured covers of classic R&B tunes by the likes of Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett.
