Library Annual Book Sale

September 1, 2018

Editor, Daily Times:

Fall is in the air, and that means that the Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale is coming! Our generous Watertown community has donated an impressive amount of books and magazines. Friends volunteers are busy sorting and organizing the donations, and we are ready to go. All we need now is you, the friends of Friends, to come and take advantage of our great bargains.

The Annual Friends Book Sale is our main fundraiser. This sale allows us to do many important things for our library and for the Watertown Community. The Friends of the Library financially support projects and programs that are not included in the Watertown Library’s budget. In recent years we have supported the Summer and Winter Library Programs and Special Author Events and Speakers. The Friends have purchased books to boost the Children’s Room Collection of STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) materials. We have purchased computers and equipment and the cute and colorful Adirondack chairs in front of the building. Friends sponsor the Garden Tales Farmers Market and have financed the Library’s participation in Pumpkin Palooza and other fun community events.

Please consider patronizing this important fundraiser. You may find a novel that you were hoping to read, a copy of a “how to” book for your favorite handyman, or children’s books to stock your children’s or grandchildren’s library. You can find books to donate to your church day care, your local free public library or one of Watertown’s nursing homes. The possibilities are endless.

This year, as an added bonus, we have a supply of donated “Orbits” the Watertown High School Annual Yearbooks for sale. We can’t guarantee that we will have the year that you are looking for, but we have quite a few years available. Come and take a look!

The fun starts on Wednesday, Sept. 5, with a special member preview night from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Memberships may be purchased that night and start as low as $10. Please consider joining the Friends of the Library. We’d love to have you, and you can be as active as you would like.

Thursday, Sept. 6, the sale is open to the general public and goes from 9 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 7, the sale will go from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 8, will feature a $5 bag sale. The hours are from 9 a.m. until noon. A library tote will be included in the $5 price, and you can fill it with all of the book sale items that you can fit into it. Everything goes out the door on Sunday, Sept. 9, from noon until 1:30 p.m. All items are free to all takers.

Please do your best to stop by and help the good work of the Friends of the Library. We are so happy to support an institution that does so much for our city, and is a key to it’s future.

We appreciate the wonderful response the Friends have always had from the Watertown community. Thanks in advance!
