Three Killed When Tanker Filled With Fuel Overturns, Burns
WALKER, Mich. (AP) _ A gasoline tanker truck crashed into a car and burned Monday, killing a couple in the auto and the truck driver.
The truck apparently falied to negotiate a curve on an entrance ramp from Interstate 96 to southbound U.S. Highway 131 about 4:30 p.m., and struck the station wagon, said Kent County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Van Anwerp.
Killed were Jack Rybarsyk and his wife, Betty, of Grand Rapids, who were riding in a station wagon, Van Anwerp said. Both were in their 60s.
Also killed was truck driver Robert A. Mulder, 55, of Holland, Van Anwerp said.
The crash left both vehicles ablaze on the highway median strip, and rescuers were unable to reach the victims immediately, deputies said.
