Man found dead after blaze erupts at home in Pueblo

November 8, 2018

PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) — Authorities say a 76-year-old man died after an accidental fire erupted at a home in Pueblo.

The Pueblo Chieftain reports police and firefighters arrived at the home in the Belmont neighborhood Monday, finding most of the flames were already extinguished by the man’s adult son.

The son, who also lives at the home, told authorities that he saw smoke inside when he returned to the house. He grabbed a fire extinguisher and began fighting the blaze when he discovered his father’s body.

Police detectives and arson investigators from the Pueblo Fire Department and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation examined the scene, determining the fire was caused by accident.

Authorities say a discarded cigarette possibly started the blaze.

Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity.
