Lincoln begins yearlong streetlight conversion project

October 11, 2018

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Lincoln has begun a yearlong project to convert all streetlights to LED lighting.

The city says the lights on residential streets will appear to be less bright than those on arterials because different LED lights will be installed.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports that the city plans to recoup the $12.2 million conversion cost over 12 years or a little longer through savings on energy and maintenance. The city says the LED lights will reduce the city’s annual energy usage by 10.7 million kilowatt hours.
