Willie Nelson embraces ‘flak’ over Beto O’Rourke support: ‘We’re not happy until they’re not happy’
Country music icon Willie Nelson once again weighed in on the “flak” he’s receiving for his support of Texas Democrat Beto O’Rourke with a simple message: “We’re not happy until they’re not happy.”
The voice behind “Georgia on My Mind” told the ladies of ABC’s “The View” Tuesday that he isn’t satisfied until his critics are upset with him. Mr. Nelson has irritated Republican fans in recent weeks for supporting Sen. Ted Cruz’s opponent in a closely contested race.
“Are you getting a lot of flak and how are you dealing with it,” asked co-host Joy Behar.
“Oh, I love flak,” he said. ’We’re not happy until they’re not happy.”
The singer said that he will take part in a fundraiser with Mr. O’Rourke in Austin on Sept. 29.
“I have been supporting Democrats all my life, you know?” he added while promoting his latest work, a tribute to Frank Sinatra titled “My Way.”
“I think they have this image that you don’t,” Ms. Behar said. “Why?”
“I have no idea because, you know, I haven’t hidden it that much,” the 85-year-old performer said.
