OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Omaha police have arrested a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a motorcyclist earlier this week.
Police say Omaha officers and federal immigration agents carried out a search warrant Thursday morning that led them to an address in south Omaha, where officers found and arrested 42-year-old Luis Velasquez-Ortiz. Velasquez-Ortiz has been charged in a warrant with leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury or death.
Investigators say Velasquez-Ortiz was driving a sport utility vehicle early Wednesday morning that ran a stop sign and his 31-year-old motorcyclist Juan Moreno-Tamayo. Police say Velasquez-Ortiz fled the scene, running over Moreno-Tamayo in the process. Moreno-Tamayo died at the scene.
