Szydlowski helps K’s win 3rd straight
Shawn Szydlowski has been on a tear since he was benched for a game. Mason Baptista has looked good, too, in similar circumstances.
Both played huge roles in the Komets’ 7-5 victory over the Kalamazoo Wings, in front of 3,431 fans at Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on Friday night.
Szydlowski had two goals, including the second-period game winner, and totaled three points. That gives the ECHL’s reigning MVP four goals and nine points in five games since coach Gary Graham sat him for a night.
Baptista assisted on four goals and had a plus-4 rating on a night in which the Komets’ defense was spotty. In two games since he was scratched, Baptista has one goal and six points.
The Komets have now won three in a row.
J.C. Campagna also netted two goals for the Komets.
Jake Kamrass, Ryan Lowney and Trey Phillips also scored for Fort Wayne (26-18-9), which pulled into a tie with Kalamazoo (29-23-3) for third place in the Central Division.
