Are you ready for a Chalupathon
SAN BENITO — Looking for a way to enjoy an afternoon of food, fun and prizes while helping others at the same time?
The Citizens Volunteer Council for the Rio Grande State Center will hold its fourth annual Chalupathon to raise much-needed funds to help people in the Valley.
“ The event gets a little bigger every year,” said CVC President John Hand. “Our attendance is larger, our prizes are better and our sponsorship has grown.”
The event raises funds to support the patients of the state hospital, the residents of the state supported living center and the patients of the out-patient clinic.
The Citizens Volunteer Council was re-established in 2012 to improve the quality of life of patients receiving services at the facilities. The organization provides goods, services and activities beyond the basic needs provided by the state. Funds raised purchase items the state can’t pay for due to limited funding or restrictions set forth by legislation.
These items include birthday and holiday gifts, trips to movies and the zoo and various events throughout the year.
This year’s prizes include a rocking chair, a flat-screen TV, a spa package, shopping and dining certificates from restaurants around the area as well as gift baskets and small appliances and electronics. Prizes exceed $75 in value.
Those interested in purchasing the $20 tickets or for further information, call Terri Lievanos, Community Relations Director at the Rio Grande State Center, (956) 364-8430.
