Candidate Cries Foul on Chicken
FINDLAY, Ohio (AP) _ Mary Boyle’s Senate campaign is crying foul because police wouldn’t let her chicken cross the street.
David Lulkin, 23, gets $1,000 a month to wear a chicken suit at Gov. George Voinovich’s campaign stops to embarrass the Republican governor and persuade him to debate Ms. Boyle, a Democrat.
Lulkin said that on Tuesday he walked into a high school where Voinovich was speaking and was escorted off the grounds by police. He said an officer threatened to arrest him if he crossed the street and went back in.
Steve Fought, Boyle’s press secretary, said he believes the governor got the Findlay police to stop the chicken.
Caryn Candisky, the governor’s campaign spokesman, responded, ``It was nothing that was ordered by this campaign or anyone on this staff.
Findlay police had no comment.
