Officials seek cause of massive warehouse fire; no injuries
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A massive fire at a paper recycling facility in Philadelphia was brought under control after numerous firefighters battled the blaze for several hours.
No injuries were reported in the fire, which was reported around 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Nearby residents reported hearing some explosions around the time they first saw the flames, but the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
The fire sent plumes of thick, black smoke billowing from the building. It wasn’t clear if anyone was inside the building when the fire broke out.
The fire was brought under control around 9:30 p.m.
Some public transportation routes were temporarily suspended due to the fire. Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor trains also run behind the warehouse, but far enough away so that service was not affected.
