Man injured in semi vs. car collision in Buffalo County

A 47-year-old Eau Claire, Wis., man needed to be extricated from his vehicle after his vehicle was hit by a tractor-trailer on Hwy. 35/54 in Buffalo County on Friday.

According to the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department, Michael Stangl was leaving the Hillside Fish House in a 2014 Chevy Suburban and attempted to pull out onto Hwy. 35/54. He failed to yield the right of way and was struck on the driver’s side of his vehicle by a 2017 Peterbilt Truck driven by Douglas Reiter of St. Charles.

Although he needed to be extricated from his vehicle, Stangl suffered non-life threatening injuries. He was taken by Winona Ambulance to a landing zone where he was transported by helicopter to Gundersen Air to receive further care.

The incident is still under investigation by the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office.

Assisting the sheriff’s department at the scene was Fountain City First Responders/Fire Department, Winona Area Ambulance, Winona Fire Department, Gundersen Air, Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Department, Snappers Towing, Borkowski Towing and Wisconsin State Patrol.
