Easton teen heads to court in pedestrian death

EASTON, Mass. (AP) — A 17-year-old driver from Easton charged with striking and killing a 71-year-old man walking his dog is headed to court.

Oliver Ames High School student Colin O’Hearne is scheduled to appear next week at a clerk magistrate’s hearing in Taunton District Court to face charges connected to the Labor Day death of George Power. The dog also died.

The Enterprise (http://bit.ly/19t3TjU ) reports that O’Hearne faces charges of operating negligently with a death resulting, speeding and failure to stay in marked lanes.

Power was the husband of a teacher at Oliver Ames.

Police said O’Hearne was traveling east on Summer Street when he lost control of his car, striking Power before crashing into a tree and then a utility pole.

O’Hearne’s lawyer could not be reached.
