Second-Foor Porch Collapses, Six Injured

May 11, 1987

BOSTON (AP) _ At least six guests at a wedding party were injured when a second-floor porch collapsed and they plunged 30 feet to the ground.

″All you heard was the porch go and people screaming,″ said Ed Hamilton, who lives near the house where the part was held. ″There was a loud crack like somebody breaking a bunch of boards.″

Acting District Fire Chief Paul O’Brien said none of the injuries in Sunday’s accident was believed serious.

One neighbor said he heard talk and laughter from the porch turn into screams. ″There was a party, and people celebrating; then it sounded like a tree breaking. It was a lot of crackling wood.″

The porch, about 14 square feet, crushed a three-foot-deep swimming pool.

Boston City Hospital Administrator Mark Douville said four of the injured were taken there for treatment and all were in stable condition.
