Man on trial in beheading plot: I was living in a ‘fantasy’
BOSTON (AP) — A man accused of participating in a plot to behead conservative blogger Pamela Geller says he never wanted to hurt anyone and was living in a “fantasy” world.
David Wright took the stand in his trial in Boston’s federal court Wednesday. He faces up to life in prison if convicted of conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries.
Wright said he used Islamic State propaganda to get attention from other people online but never supported the group. Wright said he said a lot of “fantastical things” but didn’t intend to carry out violence.
The plot against Geller was never executed.
Prosecutors say Wright encouraged his uncle to instead go after police officers. Wright’s uncle was fatally shot after he approached officers with a knife in 2015.
