Beatrice falls at home to Norris in season opener
Beatrice had no answer for the Norris rushing attack in the season opener at the House of Orange in Beatrice.
The Orangemen fell to the Titans 39-10 Friday night.
Norris’ offensive line was able to pave the way for quarterback Aidan Oerter and running backs Ashton Hausmann and Zach Serna.
The Beatrice offense was able to make big plays to score their touchdowns, including a kickoff return for a touchdown, but they were unable to sustain long drives. They were also plagued by penalties throughout the night.
Beatrice didn’t go anywhere on their first drive of the season and their punt was partially blocked, setting Norris at the 50 yard line.
The Titans put together an eight play drive highlighted by a 15 and 12 yard runs by Ashton Hausmann. Aidan Oerter capped the drive with a two yard touchdown run, making it 7-0 early.
Beatrice answered immediately. Brody Nelson took in the ensuing kickoff inside the Beatrice five yard line and took it all the way to the endzone for a touchdown, making it 7-7.
Norris drove it deep in to Beatrice territory on their next drive, but the drive stalled when the Orangemen defense stopped them on fourth and goal from the 9-yard line.
Beatrice put an eight play drive together, but it stalled and they were forced to punt. The punt was partially blocked again, setting the Titans up at the Beatrice 12-yard line. An eight yard run by Hausmann and a four yard touchdown run by Zach Serna made it 13-7 after Beatrice stopped the two point conversion.
The Orangemen started their next drive at their own 27 yard line and a 38 yard pass from Dakota Adams to Jace Pethoud set up a 41-yard field goal by Adam Riekenberg, making it 13-10.
Norris answered quickly. Starting at their own 39 yard line, it just took two plays for them to score. A 32 yard pass from Oerter to Ethan Schmidt and a 29 yard touchdown run by Hausmann extended the Norris lead to 19-10.
Beatrice’s offense went three and out on their next drive. Norris took over at the Beatrice 48 yard line. Hausmann opened the drive with a 32 yard run, but later in the drive, Beatrice had a chance to get a stop on fourth and four, but an 11-yard touchdown run by Hausmann extended the Norris lead to 25-10, which is what the score would be at half time.
Norris opened the second half with a 10-play, 70 yard scoring drive. After the two point conversion, they led 33-10. Oerter had two passes to Aaron Williams on the drive while Hausmann had runs of 20 yards and four yards. Hausmann also capped the drive with a one yard touchdown run.
Beatrice went three and out on their next drive and once again, their punt was blocked, setting Norris up at the Beatrice 31 yard line. After runs of 12 yards and seven yards by Hausmann and a 10-yard run by Zach Serna, Serna then capped the drive with a four yard touchdown run. The two pointer failed, making it 39-10.
In the fourth quarter, Beatrice would get into the end zone. A 70 yard scramble by quarterback Bennett Crandall, a roughing the passer penalty and a three yard touchdown run by Mahoney made it 39-17, which would end up being the final score.
Beatrice falls to 0-1 on the season and will travel to Plattsmouth Friday night. Norris improves to 1-0 and they will host Crete.
