Trinidad struggles to emerge from heavy flooding
PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (AP) — The eastern Caribbean island of Trinidad is struggling to emerge from widespread flooding as meteorologists warn of more rain that has already forced businesses and schools to close.
The government’s Meteorological Service said Saturday that heavy rain and winds are expected for part of the weekend.
Heavy rains that began Thursday has caused flooding that has cut off several communities, damaged hundreds of homes and led to the evacuation of dozens of people.
Officials say eastern Trinidad is the hardest hit area.
