Early Planning for Stars Party

May 23, 2000

DALLAS (AP) _ No matter that the Dallas Stars are still playing _ it’s time to plan another victory party.

The Dallas City Council’s Public Safety Committee on Monday unanimously recommended a parade and rally for the defending champions if they win the NHL title again.

The full council was expected to consider the proposal Wednesday.

``We don’t know that the Stars are going to win the cup, so this is in some ways a hypothetical discussion at this point,″ Mike Rawlings, president of Pizza Hut and chairman of a planning committee for a celebration, told The Dallas Morning News. ``This is a `what-if’ scenario.″

The best-of-seven series with the Colorado Avalanche was 2-2 entering Game 5 Tuesday night.

A victory party would be similar to last year’s and cost about $235,000, Rawlings said. Supporters hope to finance the celebration with corporate donations.
