7 hurt in Massachusetts apartment fire
WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Fire officials say seven people were taken to the hospital after a fire at a Massachusetts apartment building where firefighters had to rescue residents from upper-floor windows.
The fire in the eight-unit building in Worcester was reported at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and with people leaning out of second- and third-floor windows.
Seven people were rescued, including four from the second floor over a ground ladder and three from the third floor over an aerial ladder.
Five adults and two children were taken to the hospital for evaluation. The nature of their injuries was not disclosed.
Fourteen residents have been displaced. The cause remains under investigation.
The Red Cross was at the scene and was working with residents of the building.
