Leominster’s Polanco Places 2nd at States

ROXBURY -- Leominster’s Jonathan Polanco finished second in the 600 meters with a time of 1:21.32 at Thursday’s Division 1 indoor track and field state championship at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Division 5

On Wednesday, the Lunenburg boys placed 11th at the Division 5 state meet at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Leading the way for the Blue Knights, David Gardner won the 1,000 meters by 2.5 seconds and broke his own school record with a time of 2:35.40, while Joe Rivers had his best throw of the year in the shot put at 49 feet, 11.25 inches, placing second.

By placing first and second, respectively, Gardner and Rivers automatically advance to next week’s all-state meet.

Other top performers for Lunenburg on Wednesday included Michael Alleva (2-mile, 12th, 10:39.01); Nick Huntington (55 dash, 18th, 6.97 seconds);

Mason Infantino, Joseph Montemurro, Nick Hall and Nick Huntington finished (4x200, 12th, 1:39.94); Seamus Gordon, Alleva, Chris Roy and Zach MacLure (4x800, 9:07.69) and the 4x400-meter relay, which finished ninth, one place shy of a medal, at 3:48.64.
