McComb working to buy baseball field by community center
MCCOMB, Miss. (AP) — A city in southwestern Mississippi is working toward buying a baseball field next to a community center.
The Enterprise-Journal reports the McComb Board of Selectmen voted 4-2 on Tuesday to purchase the land by the Martin Luther King Center.
Selectman Ted Tullos objected to the property being bought with money from the city’s hotel-motel tax.
Mayor Quordiniah Lockley said Wednesday that the land purchase, if successfully negotiated, will be made from a $158,000 fund set aside for construction on the MLK Recreation Complex.
McComb is in the process of borrowing $1.5 million for the recreation center.
