Thala Hasselbalch, 85, of Columbus died July 30, 2018, at Morys Haven Nursing Home in Columbus.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at United Methodist Church in Shelby with The Rev. Teri Lucas officiating. Interment will be in the Shelby Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church.
Thala was born Feb. 15, 1933, in Genoa to Everett and Irma (Schild) Plantz. Thala attended Columbus Public Schools and on Nov. 7, 1948, was united in marriage to Neal Hasselbalch at the Hasselbalch family farm north of Shelby.
Thala was a partner with Neal in the farming business. She worked hard with Neal on the farm and raised three children. Upon retirement, they moved to Columbus in 2006. She was known for her homemade mac n’ cheese. Thala enjoyed visiting people and taking them their special treats. At birthdays, she would make their favorite meal and birthday cake. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Shelby.

Thala is survived by her son, Rick (Mary) Hasselbalch of Columbus, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, half-brother Gary (Connie) Loseke of Fullerton, brother-in-law Frank Knox of California and sister-in-law Lou Plantz of Omaha.
Thala was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Irma Plantz, husband Neal Hasselbalch, son Tom Hasselbalch, daughter Sheri LarsonSister Kay Knox and brother Myron Plantz.
