JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) _ A man who tried to hold up a convenience store apparently was gunned down by a clerk who opened fire with an automatic pistol, police said.

The clerk and another employee also struggled with the robber's accomplice until police arrived at the Prime Stop Food Store on Wednesday night.

The surviving robbery suspect will be charged with murder because he was involved in a crime that resulted in a death, Homicide Sgt. Rick Parker said.

Parker declined to identify anyone involved in the incident. He said investigators would interview both employees, but it appeared that one of them shot the suspect with a TEC-9 machine pistol.
