Pet of the week: Otis needs a special angel
Type: Shih tsu
Age and gender: 3, male
Description: Otis is an 11 pound, potty-trained male Shih Tzu. Otis was dropped off at a shelter in Rochester. He was not doing well in a shelter environment, so the shelter transferred Otis to SDR. Otis was terrified when he first got to his foster home. But after a couple days he started to settle in.
Otis is such a sweetie! He loves to snuggle, give kisses, play fetch, go for walks, play with toys, enjoys car and golf cart rides, and enjoys helping his foster parents in the garden! He loves to be with his person all the time. He needs a home with no younger children and no other animals.
Otis has some special idiosyncrasies that require some environmental management. He does not do well with other dogs. He will lunge, bark at them and go after them. Otis also has some trust issues with people. He is scared of strangers, at first, and will lunge and bark at them. After a few minutes, Otis will calm down and allow the new human to feed him treats or pet him. He warms up very fast. He has not bitten anybody or other animals. Sudden movements will also scare and startle him, but his foster parents are working with him.
Otis needs somebody to be his special angel that can accommodate his special personality. If you are looking for a best friend, he is your man. Training would be very helpful with taming his reactive behavior towards other dogs and people. He would also do best with a fenced-in yard given his reactive behavior. His adoption fee is $300.
