Couple accused of not helping kid hurt by punitive exercise

WINCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Police in New Hampshire say a father and stepmother have been accused of not taking care of a child who got hurt after being forced to perform an exercise for punitive reasons.

Police in Winchester said their investigation goes back to an allegation in February of child abuse. The report alleged that the child’s father had the child do the exercise. After the child was injured, the report alleges neither the father nor stepmother sought medical attention for the child. Police didn’t specify the exercise; an email seeking comment was left with the police chief Friday.

Police investigated and arrest warrants were issued. The couple turned themselves in Wednesday. They were booked and released on a summons to appear in Keene District Court at a later date on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child. Their names have not been released.
