State: Massachusetts school kids can’t use cleaning wipes

May 23, 2015

LYNNFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts agency has told an elementary school to stop having children use disinfectant wipes to clean their classrooms desks and cafeteria tables, after a parent expressed concern about students being exposed to cleaning chemicals.

WBZ-TV reports (http://cbsloc.al/1IUc2So ) that an inspector with the state Department of Agricultural Resources sent a “letter of warning” earlier this year to Huckleberry Hill School in Lynnfield, about 16 miles north of Boston.

The inspector told school officials to “cease and desist” having students use products in containers labeled “keep out of reach of children.” The cleaning wipes used by the children came in such containers.

School Superintendent Jane Tremblay says the school is following that order.

Some parents said they didn’t have a problem with their kids using cleaning wipes.
