Darlington County deputies seek person of interest in Hartsville slaying

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – A man was fatally shot Sunday morning at a convenience store in the Pine Ridge section of Darlington County, near Hartsville, and Darlington County Sheriff’s Office investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in the investigation.

Darlington County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at approximately 11:30 a.m. Sunday to the Markette convenience store at the corner of SC 151 and W. Old Camden Road in response to the shooting, according to the agency.

Desmond Coe, 24, of Hartsville was pronounced dead from an apparent gunshot wound, Darlington County Coroner J. Todd Hardee said in a news release.

Sunday night investigators released two images from the store’s surveillance system and have asked for the public’s assistance to identify and locate a person and car, both of interest, in the shooting.

The death has been ruled a homicide and is being investigated by the Darlington County Coroner’s Office, the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office and SLED.
