NORTH HAVERHILL, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire man has been sentenced to three to seven years in state prison for causing a crash that killed his 7-year-old son last year.

The Valley News reports 29-year-old David Aldrich Jr., of Woodsville, pleaded guilty last week to negligent homicide driving while intoxicated and second-degree assault for the May 4, 2018 crash in Bath.

He was accused of driving under the influence of alcohol when he drove off the road and struck a tree, causing fatal injuries to his son and injuring his 6-year-old daughter.

Aldrich received a second sentence of two to four years, all suspended, on the assault charge. He told police he’d had several beers before driving and had taken opioids and smoked marijuana earlier that day.
