Thumbs up, thumbs down for March 15

March 15, 2019

Thumbs up: To Bill and Marilyn Brown for their efforts to restore the Brown Art Gallery in Springville and give back to the community through the arts.

Thumbs up: To BYUtv for pursuing quality content families can enjoy together.

Thumbs up: To Provo band The Aces for making its hometown proud by selling out shows across the country on its latest tour.

Thumbs up: To Provo for taking the steps needed to obtain funding from different sources to expedite the airport expansion. Having a regional airport will be a huge convenience, particularly for those who live in Provo and further south.

Thumbs up: To all involved in getting the Seven Peaks Waterpark up and running for this summer. The venue has an important impact on Provo’s economy. It has been missed by hundreds of residents and visitors as a summer recreation and cool-off spot.

Thumbs down: To the Utah Legislature for killing the LGBTQ conversion therapy bill, and Rep. Karianne Lisonbee, R-Clearfield, who sponsored changes to the bill and insisted she was looking for a compromise that would still protect LGBTQ kids.

THUMBS UP: Expanding the Provo airport makes me much more excited to use it as a realistic travel option. More space for passengers in the terminal, as well as adding additional gates for more routes will be a fantastic resource.

Thumbs Up: To all those hardworking, driven girls out there participating in Girls Scouts right now. We all absolutely love your Samoas and Thin Mints, of course, but we’re also so happy that many girls are developing leadership and business skills.

Thumbs Down: To the road construction projects happening at Bulldog and 500 West in Provo. Road construction is a necessary pain, but it’s an even bigger pain to have two separate construction projects happening right next to each other at the same time.

Thumbs Up: With the drop of the newest “Avengers: Endgame” trailer, the countdown to the movie begins. Only 42 more days until we find whatever it takes to defeat Thanos. Please let Tony Stark live and let Captain American and Bucky Barnes be happy.

Thumbs Down: Anyone else disappointed to learn that the heroine of “Dwight in Shining Armor” is not named Dwight? I was 100 percent supportive of a weird princess name but now I’m a little disappointed in the new BYUtv show writers.

Thumbs Down: To the BYU men’s basketball team for finding a way to take everything bad from this season and put them on the court in the postseason. It was like watching a building implode.

Thumbs Up: To the BYU women’s basketball team, who carried the Cougar torch proudly all the way to the WCC tournament championship. Best of luck in the NCAA tournament, ladies!

THUMBS UP: Kudos to Senators Mike Lee and Mitt Romney for voting their conscience by casting ballots to strike down President Trump’s national emergency declaration on the border.
